Traffic was rerouted to the upper level departures area while police investigated, causing heavy traffic and long wait times for people looking to pick up family members for the holidays.

As of 12:17 p.m. the airport announced the investigation concluded and the item was cleared.

"Airport police have cleared the suspicious item and traffic will be reopening on the lower level shortly. We appreciate your patience and the fast response by @LAAirportPD," LAX said on Twitter.
